Free Byrds was built in 1989 by Robert Ives in Falmouth, England. A 36-foot Biscay 36 — heavy, long-keeled, designed by Alan Hill for the open ocean.

The same class of yacht races solo around the world in the Golden Globe Race. Michael Guggenberger sailed his Biscay 36 non-stop around the globe in 249 days.

Teak underfoot. A cockpit that sits low in the water. She leans into a gust instead of flinching, and she holds her line for hours at a time without asking much of the helm. — Aboard, April 2026

The teak deck is weathered. The rigging is functional. Everything on her has a job. She is the boat she has always been.

When there's wind, we sail. You can take the helm, trim the sails, or sit back and watch Gozo's coastline pass. When the sea is calm, we anchor in quiet bays around Comino and Gozo — swimming, paddle board, kayak, exploring caves. Either way, there's Gozo cheese, ftira, olives, and local wine.
